Parents,
School is cancelled tomorrow for the 1st – 3rd
grade students ONLY After last nights storm we now have a good
bit of water damage on the lower elementary wing. Parents should assume that school is in
session on Monday – unless we notify you otherwise.
Thank you for your attention to this
concern.
If you are aware of a school family who
may not receive this message –
your assistance of contacting that family
would be of great help.

NEWS AND NOTES from
the CLASSROOMS:
Students in kindergarten through sixth grade have
earned over 200 "gold medals" in our "Library Olympics." During the month of February, a gold medal
was posted on the wall in the lunchroom for
every book that was completed.
Some students read five or more books!
Great job, CBS!
The K-5 ASC students
created sculptures from Model Magic. The students enjoyed working with this
medium; they were proud to take their finished projects home for display.
The kindergarten class wishes Gavin Reynolds a happy birthday on March 18!! The class will be taking their achievement
tests April 15 - 19, and so they need to eat a good breakfast, get plenty of rest,
and then listen well during the testing time.
Everyone is looking forward to Spring Break in a few weeks!
The second graders are working on an insect
collection. Each student is to collect
10 different insects, dead or alive, but no spiders, please, since they are not
considered insects. This project is due on Monday, April 5, the first day back
at school after Spring Break.
The third graders are learning about some special people in history: Pocohantas, Miles Standish, and Squanto. During this unit, the students have built
their own teepees, watched a video about Pocahantas, and listened to an audio tape about Squanto's life. The students are
also reading historical biographies, and in April they will be writing book
reports sharing what they have learned about these important people. The third grade thinks that learning about
history is fun!
On March 24, the
first, second, and third grader classes are going on a field trip together to the Memphis
Botanic Gardens. They plan to leave
school at 10:45; the permission slips and money for the trip are due by Friday,
March 19.
Students in first, second, and third grade have been learning some new songs in music class. They will perform
these at the Fine Arts Program on March 16 at 7 p.m. Come and listen!
Although the calendar said that it was Friday, February 26, for Miss
Taylor's fourth graders, it was the Fourth of July!! The class had just completed its study of
all the events that led up to our country's independence, and so it was the
perfect time for such a celebration. The students made patriotic hats, sang
songs, had a parade outside, listened to the sixth graders recite the
Declaration of Independence, had some special food, and watched a movie on what
they had studied. The class is truly grateful
for all those who sacrificed their lives or gave of themselves so that we could
have freedom.
The
fourth graders are very happy to share that two
members of their class were saved this week! Miss Taylor and her students want
to thank the Lord for working in hearts and helping them to be witnesses. Our
prayer as a school is that this spirit will spread throughout every class so
that every one of our students will trust the Lord as personal Saviour and then
share the good news of salvation with others.
Mr.
Zitnyar's 10th grade world history class is
anticipating some interesting class presentations! In place of a paper
assignment, the students have an opportunity to make a dramatic presentation before
the class about a person in history.
While in costume, they are to share historical information and keep the
students interested.
Miss
Moore's tenth grade English class has
just finished reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the story of two
lovers whose families are in the midst of an ancient feud. During this study, half of the students have
been a part of Romeo's family, the Montagues, and the other half have been part
of Juliet's family, the Capulets. The
students earned points for their families by their class participation,
good grades, and good behavior. At the end of the unit, the winning family will
be rewarded with a special treat.
